Mycroft Holmes is the elder brother of Sherlock Holmes in the BBC television series Sherlock. He is portrayed by Mark Gatiss. He is a British Government official working in the Diogenes Club. He is highly intelligent and observant, but prefers to remain in the background and out of the public spotlight. His main focus is to keep the British government running smoothly and efficiently. He is often seen as a foil to Sherlock, being the more mature and diplomatic one of the two. He also provides valuable help and advice to Sherlock whenever needed. He is a complex character, but he is loyal and protective of his brother, showing his true character when it is needed.
