Ringo Starr is an English musician and songwriter best known for his time as the drummer of The Beatles. He was born Richard Starkey in 1940 in Liverpool, England. He began playing the drums at an early age and was in several bands before joining The Beatles in 1962. With the band, he played on all of their albums and was an integral part of their sound. He also contributed to writing a few of their songs, including “Octopus’s Garden” and “What Goes On.” After The Beatles broke up in 1970, Ringo Starr went on to have a successful solo career, releasing nearly 20 albums, and performing with other famous musicians including George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton. His music has been covered by many artists and his influence on popular music is undeniable.
