The main villain in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is Muzan Kibutsuji (鬼き舞ぶ辻つじ 無む惨ざん Kibutsuji Muzan?). He is the first and most powerful demon, responsible for creating all others. Muzan leads the Twelve Kizuki, a group of the twelve strongest demons who directly serve him.
Muzan's transformation into a demon occurred a thousand years ago, during the Heian Era. He sought immortality to overcome his terminal illness and has since been pursuing two methods to achieve it: finding the Blue Spider Lily or creating more demons in the hope that one will overcome their sunlight weakness.
Muzan has control over all those who have assimilated his blood to become demons, except for Nezuko Kamado, Tamayo, Yushiro, and Chachamaru. It is later revealed that Muzan shares a bloodline with the Ubuyashiki Family.
